Becoming a Member

To become a member a non-formal audition, receipt of the annual dues payment, and completion of at least 4 full rehearsals, the dress rehearsal and a concert performance is required.

Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings 6:45 PM to 9:30 pm at Brookview Community Center in Golden Valley, MN. No rehearsals are held in late December, or between June and August. The orchestra performs 6 to 8 concerts per year at area churches, the community center and/or at care facilities (when available). Usually, there are 4 to 6 rehearsals with a dress rehearsal, before each concert. Orchestra musicians are expected to practice their part prior to each rehearsal and attend at least 4 rehearsals plus the dress to play a concert.

All members of the orchestra pay annual dues each fall to offset orchestra operational costs. If you are a high school student or require financial assistance, please contact the personal manager or the orchestra president. To pay your dues online simply click here. You may also pay your dues in cash or check (without credit card processing fees) by visiting with the orchestra's Treasurer during a rehearsal break.

Please note: For security reasons, your contact information will not be shared outside of our organization or with third parties.

About the Orchestra

The Golden Valley Orchestra (GVO) was first established as a reading orchestra at Golden Valley Lutheran College in 1968. It celebrates its' infancy each year from its start at the college in 1968. When the closing of the college took place in the early 80's, the orchestra was fortunate to receive funding from the city of Golden Valley to become the Golden Valley Orchestra (GVO) in 1985. Today the GVO is one of Minnesota's oldest community orchestras and will celebrate its 56th season of giving beautiful music back to the community.

Made up of amateur and semi-professional musicians from various socio-economic backgrounds, the orchestra continues to be a viable part of the metro community. As part of its mission the GVO works to be arts advocates and bridge the gap between youth orchestras, the Minnesota Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and other professionally paid arts organizations.
