Ravel, Tchaikovsky and Respighi

Born and raised in Twin Cities, Tingyun Wang has been surrounded by music since birth through accompanying her older sibling to Yamaha piano group lessons. At age three, Tingyun was so adamant about taking lessons too, that she began private lessons at five years of age. In the Spring of 2022, Tingyun joined  Rubinstein Music Academy to study with Dr. Denis Evstuhin, an internationally acclaimed pianist. Dr. Evstuhin enlightened and elevated Tingyun’s technical and artistic skills, completely transforming her playing. He also introduced her to a wider range of piano repertoire, including concertos. Since starting with Dr. Evstuhin, Tingyun has received honorable mention at the Rising Stars Concerto Competition in La Crosse, WI. In 2023, she was awarded second place at the Minnesota Music Teachers Association Junior Young Artist contest. And for two consecutive years, Tingyun has won third place at the Piano Solo Festival contest at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Today, Tingyun is honored to be the winner of the most recent 2025 Saint Paul Piano Teachers Association (SPPTA) concerto competition.

Tingyun made her orchestral debut with the Dakota Valley Symphony performing Saint-Saëns’s piano concerto No. 2 in G minor - first movement in the Spring of 2024 and has since gone on to solo with other community orchestras, including the Mississippi Valley Orchestra. Tingyun will make her first appearance with the Golden Valley Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky piano concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor - first movement this March. Inspired by the full and beautiful sounds of orchestral music, this tenth grader also enjoys playing cello in the chamber orchestra at school. Additionally, she engages in Science Olympiad and Econ Start-up club and performs at various community events with her dance academy. At home, Tingyun enjoys a variety of activities, such as baking, gardening, crocheting, and playing table tennis.
