Compete for a chance to perform at the Young Artists Concert

The purpose of the GVO Young Artists Concert is to provide young instrumentalist and vocalists an opportunity to compete with their peers and perform live with an orchestra.

Details

Age Requirement:  Open to all Minnesota piano, string, wind, brass, percussion or voice students from these age groups;

  • Junior (up to15)
  • Senior (16-19)
  • Advanced (19-30)

Audition Dates/Times/Location: (Applications now OPEN)

  • Tuesday: 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM (1/12/27)
    Location to be determined, Golden Valley
  • Tuesday: 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM (1/19/27)
    Location to be determined, Golden Valley

Rehearsals available with Orchestra:

  • May 31st, April 5th, and 12th of 2027
    Location to be determined, Golden Valley
  • April 19, 2027 (final rehearsal)
    Location to be determined, Golden Valley

Dress Rehearsal with all soloists and orchestra

  • Saturday, April 24, 2027 - 9AM – noon
    Location to be determined

Concert Date/Location:

  • Sunday, April 25, 2027 – 3:00 PM

Audition requirements

The audition fee is $60. There are two ways to apply:

  • Submit your application by sending a check/money order with the application to:
    Attn: Golden Valley Orchestra (YAC)
    Brookview Community Center

  • Winners, if chosen, will receive two (2) complementary tickets to the concert.

Your application MUST BE received by
December 18, 2026  - Applications are now OPEN

  • Student performance should be no longer than 15 minutes. Please perform only 10 minutes of excerpts at the audition. Vocalists may perform multiple arias or songs if they are from the same opera or set of songs.
  • Students are encouraged to memorize their music, but not mandatory.
  • Students must bring to the audition a copy of the original performance music for the judges.
  • Using standard repertoire is encouraged. Musicians must choose a piece that can be easily found on IMSLP; the piece cannot be a Rental Only. Orchestra instrumentation should also be considered; full strings, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, etc.
