Young Artists Competition
The purpose of the GVO Young Artists competition is to provide\ young instrumentalist and vocalists an opportunity to compete with their peers and perform live with an orchestra.
Details
Age Requirement: Open to all Minnesota piano, string, wind, brass, percussion or voice students from these age groups;
Junior (up to15), Senior (16-19) and Advanced (19-30).
Audition Dates/Times/Location:
Saturday: 10:00 AM to noon (1/13/24) or
Tuesday: 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (1/16/24 or 1/23/24)

Rehearsals with Orchestra:
April 1st, 8th, and/or April 15th, 2024 at Brookview Community Center, Golden Valley
April 20, 2024 - 9AM – noon (dress rehearsal) at Calvary Lutheran Church

Audition requirements
The audition fee is $40. There are two ways to apply:
- Pay online (here) and submit application submission below, OR
- Send check/money order with application to: Golden Valley Orchestra (YAC), 316 Brookview Parkway, Golden Valley, MN 55426
- Winners if chosen will receive an honorarium and two (2) complementary tickets to the concert.
Applications MUST BE received by December 15, 2023 (Currently Closed)
- Student performance should be no longer than 15 minutes. Please perform only 10 minutes of excerpts at the audition. Vocalists may perform multiple arias or songs if they are from the same opera or set of songs.
- Students encouraged to memorize music, but not mandatory.
- Students must bring to audition, a copy of original performance music for the judges.
- Standard repertoire is encouraged. Musicians must choose a piece that can be easily found on IMSLP, the piece cannot be a Rental Only. Orchestra instrumentation should also be considered; full strings, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets etc.
